Deadline is extended by one week

Flight into the Future Organization Committee took a decision to extend the project submission deadline for one week. The new deadline is May 22nd, 2005. Those of the participants, who had already submitted their projects, are allowed to submit the improved versions in this timeframe if they wish. We are looking forward to hear both from the people who had signed up using our Registration Form and from the authors who are just sending their projects without preliminary registering.

Flight into the Future is presented at XXIXth Academy's Space Symposium in Bauman's University

On January 27th Dmitry Perepyolkin had presented Flight into the Future results and plans during the Academy's Space Symposium. The Aerospace Eduaction and Youth Problems section met in the new building of the Moscow Bauman Technical University.

Flight into the Future 2004 project is presented at the international workshop at Roscosmos

During the International workshop "Reusable Rocket and Space systems: Key technologies and Demonstrators" co-sponsored by Russia's the Federal Space Agency and CNES of France (December 14-15, 2004) the project "Conversion of the expendable launcher family to the economically effective partially reusable LV family" was presented. In summer 2004 this work by Sergey Belavskiy (Sergey Antonenko acted as the science advisor) had shared the second prize of the Flight into the Future contest.

Flight into the Future presentation in the Moscow State University

On December 15th, 2004 in the Institute for Nuclear Physics of the Moscow State University the university lecturers and Moscow region high school teachers met for one-day workshop to discuss the educational program of MGU-250 space project. The workshop main objective was to familiarize the educators with the options that can be implemented within MGU-250 project that includes launch of the Universitetsky-Tatiana micro satellite. During the workshop Flight into the Future contest was introduced. The workshop participants were able to get the contest posters and Invitations for Participation.


2 December 2004

The decision is made to extend Flight into the Future participation to allow wider international involvement

The decision is made by the Heinlein Prize Trust and the Organization Committee to extend the Flight into the Future participation. Now the students of the European, African and Middle Eastern universities are allowed to participate irrespective of their citizenship. The decision is made in view of the international nature of today's university community. The options for the visiting researchers' participation will be examined on the individual basis.

Flight into the Future Organization Committee meets Russian Regional Meeting of the International Academia of Astronautics

Prof.Oleg Alifanov and Dr.Dmitry Pieson from Flight into the Future Organizing Committee attended Thursday the Russian Regional meeting of the International Academy of Astronautics in the new building of Russia's Academy of Sciences. IAA's General Secretary Dr. J.-M.Contan had presented the latest IAA activities and plans for the future. Flight into the Future team delivered the short introduction to the contest and distributed the Invitations for participation and other materials among representatives of Russia's aerospace industry and academia attending the meeting.

Russia's Federal Space Agency supports Flight into the Future contest

Russia’s Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) had announced on Wednesday its support of the Flight into the Future contest. The Agency’s press release was posted on Roscosmos web site and distributed among the media representatives.

In summer 2004 Roscosmos, Central Research Institute for Machine Building (TsNIIMash) and Khrunichev Center had supported the Russian Flight into the Future pilot project. Now Roscosmos provides information and advise support for the international Flight into the Future competition. Deputy head of the Agency Nikolai Moiseev had joined the organization committee of the contest.

‘Participating in the contests like this allows the Russian students and young researchers nod only gain some experience of the international research works, but can also critically evaluate their ‘competitiveness’ comparing with the young researchers from abroad’, Moiseev told the Roscosmos’ press service. ‘Taking into account the growing role of the international cooperation in today’s space programs, this seems to be of large importance’.

The Heinlein Prize Trust and Chinese Society of Astronautics announced "Flying to the Future - Innovative Proposals for Space Exploration" young researchers' competition.

ESA Permanent Mission in Russia features Flight into the Future contest

On 1st of November ESA Permanent Mission in Moscow web site had featured Flight into the Future contest. That was a result of the Organization Committee meeting at the ESA Moscow Representative Office.

International Robert A.Heinlein Flight into the Future Contest is announced

The Robert A. and Virginia Heinlein Prize Trust is pleased to announce the start of the Flight into the Future Project Contest open to all citizens of European, African and Middle Eastern countries. This is a competition to promote innovative scientific works and is being held to commemorate the memory of the famous American writer, and one of the founders of modern science fiction, Robert A. Heinlein. The main goal of the competition is to identify and support talented young researchers and to encourage their innovative activities that will help to bring humanity closer to Heinlein’s dream of our future in space.
